The Power of Community Partners

By Margaret Owen

In 2016, Prelude Music Foundation partnered with the Houston Symphony to bring the Community-Embedded Musicians (CEMs) into each classroom. The most critical period for a child's brain development and musical growth is between the ages of two and eight. Research shows that early music participation supports emergent literacy, motto skill refinement, cognition and important socio-emotional skills, including self expression and emotion management. The Houston Symphony is proud to partner with Prelude Music Foundation to bring music to young children in Houston schools, where we have already seen evidence of how music impacts early childhood development.
