Mission & Vision
Prelude Music Foundation’s mission is to transform the lives of children in Houston through the power of music. We teach Music Together®, a research-based music and movement program, to children in lower income schools on a weekly basis and train classroom teachers to use music every day as a tool for the aural, visual, and kinesthetic learner. Our dream is that one day the lives of all children in Houston will be enriched, empowered and inspired by music-making.
What We Do
Each week, the Prelude Music Foundation sends trained Music Together® teachers into pre-K and kindergarten classrooms. Foundation teachers lead the students and their classroom teachers in a weekly music and movement session, and each child receives materials to bring home, including a songbook, a CD, and parent education resources. In addition to working with the students, the Foundation offers training and mentorship to the classroom teachers. The classroom teachers learn how to use music and singing as a teaching tool so that music day happens every day. At the end of each semester, the Foundation provides the students with an in-school concert experience featuring professional musicians. Parents are invited to attend as well, and everyone joins in singing the songs from that semester’s curriculum.
Who We Serve
We currently serve 4 low-income schools and more than 800 students in the greater Houston area. We are in pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms and hope to one day expand to 1st grade as well.
